A quick look at Romans 6

1. Grace= justified & United with Christ-

2. (2 pts.). “We”| Died is aorist| What happened to us that broke our relationship with sin, happened in a single stroke.(2,10,11) Christ died “to” sin,

3. Jesus relationship to sin finished forever.Died to sin and put an end to its claim on us (6:9)… us as well

4. Our old self is no more, the power of sin ( body of sin), derived of its power, no longer enslaved

5. Holy life comes from knowing. “Stott, copied ) can’t go back!

THOUGHTS—

By recognizing that all I have belongs to God.

$- My life, my stuff, my days

$ -What we’re lessons learned in the Cistern? Power of the dungeon | God’s claim on life, more important than our claim on others.

$-Paul-I Cor.6:20: Bought with price- not your own

$-Kidner, “if others including Eve were frustrated by limitations Joseph found them suitable, maybe necessary for his loyalty…

By recognizing the pattern of destruction inherent in sin.

By giving the proposition its right name of wickedness he made truth his ally & by relating it to God, he rooted his loyalty to his master deep enough to hold”

Remember the challenge to the mind- Rom.6.

  1. Moral imperative:7-9: A reason for his success | the discipline
  2. Moral dilemma: 39:10/ Pressure of attrition | practice if discipline
  3. Moral moment: 39:11-13/ Moment of truth| (in her hand/ beside her)

By recognizing that consequences are guaranteed while character is not.

There are always consequences but less certain is the nature of character that emerges.

Ended poorly for others: Samson!

Key phrase- The Lord was with Joseph. As is the case in Romans 6 a choice is your to be made!

THOUGHTS and ACTIONS

From the cistern—

1. Lord, give me an understanding of your love for me; and my responsibility towards others

2. Lord give me mind( discipline) that I need for success.

3. Lord, give me the boldness in the heat of the battle to do the Godly thing!
